Veterans Counseling Veterans’ CEO, Ellsworth “Tony” Williams, had the privilege of attending the Annual Brain Impact Summit—an important gathering of leading experts focused on the detection, prevention, and treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
During the summit, powerful discussions highlighted a growing concern: the connection between military service and Parkinson’s disease. At a dedicated discussion table with Dr Lourdes Benes and Dr Ramon Rodriguez, we explored the potential links between Agent Orange, burn pits, environmental toxins near military installations, and the increased risk among veterans.
Ellsworth raised a critical question on behalf of the veteran community—one that sparked meaningful dialogue around how Parkinson’s uniquely impacts those who have served. The consensus was clear: more can be done, and we must move faster.
Our purpose in attending was to listen, learn, build relationships, and identify resources that can better support veterans and their families. What we gained was not only knowledge but a renewed urgency to advocate for earlier detection, stronger research, and improved care pathways.
